About

Ivie Funeral Home has been serving Murphy, Hayesville & Andrews area families for years. We are honored to be a part of the rich history of this community and plan to be a part of it for many years to come. Peyton and Edythe G. Ivie founded Ivie Funeral Home February 19, 1934 to serve the Cherokee and Clay County communities. After three years of operating Ivie Funeral Home from Regal Hotel, Peyton built a funeral home on Valley River Avenue to provide a better facility for funeral ceremonies. In 1939, Peyton purchased the Frank Herbert property in Hayesville and built a funeral home for the Clay County residents. In 1946, Peyton purchased the Forsythe-Watkins Funeral Home in Andrews on Cherry Street. Peyton G. Ivie died June 16, 1990 and Edythe Grier Ivie died November 11, 2000 after a lifetime of service to the community. Peyton donated much of his time to serving the community through organizations such as the Murphy Lions Club, Western North Carolina Baptist Association, Cherokee County School Board, and Meredith College, Mars Hill College, and Wake Forest University Board of Trustees. He was also a Sunday School teacher, trustee, and deacon at Murphy First Baptist Church.
