One Dozen Who Care, Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) empowers, educates, and

encourages economic development for women, youth, and elders in far Western

North Carolina, in order to bridge cultures and create community bonds. The

organization achieves this mission through its four main programs listed below:

● Multicultural Women’s Development Conference

● ODWC Prescott Scholarship for Higher Education

● Purell Miller African American Book Collection & Reading Challenge

● Elder Dinner

ODWC, Inc was founded in 1998 by Ann Miller Woodford, and 11 other women

from Cherokee, Clay and surrounding counties. At an historic April 26th meeting

the previous year, 22 women gathered to discuss how to help their communities

by extending a “hand up, rather than seeking a hand out.” Of the 22 women, 12

demonstrated a financial commitment and established an organization that was

to be part of the solution to economic challenges that have been historically

daunting for women and minorities.

Its flagship program, the annual Multicultural Women’s Development Conference,

will be held April 14th and 15th, 2023 at the beautiful Hinton Rural Life Center in

Hayesville, NC.

This program brings together a diverse group of women

representing a wide range of ages, socioeconomic, and educational

backgrounds. Two days of engaging programs will be led by presenters on

entrepreneurship, health and well-being, education, and empowerment topics.

All programs will point to the common theme for the 2023 conference -

Feed My Soul.

SOUL is being used as an acronym for Self-Care, Opportunity, Unity, and

Leadership.
