Hymns of Glory - Songs of Praise

Instructor Jerry Taylor

Course fee $20. (Requires ICL membership - $30 annually if not already a member).

This class will feature the story behind some of our favorite hymns and patriotic songs accompanied by historic reed organs. Some of the old Gospel favorites that will be included are “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms,” What A Friend,” and “To God Be the Glory,” with biographical sketches of authors such as Fanny Crosby, Anthony Showalter, and Joseph M. Scriven. More traditional hymns included will be “O, For a Thousand Tongues to Sing,” “Amazing Grace,” and “Love Divine” with biographical sketches of Charles Wesley and John Newton. Taking advantage of the month of July, the class will also feature some patriotic songs and the stories behind them such as “Yankee Doodle,” “America,” “God Bless America,” “Reveille,” and “Taps.”

Jerry Taylor is a native of Towns County, having lived in the shadow of Brasstown Bald all his life. He graduated from Towns County High School and YHC.
