ICL: Contemporary Appalachian Literature: Demon Copperhead
Contemporary Appalachian Literature: Demon Copperhead Instructor Mikala Jones-Wall Course fee $15. (Requires ICL membership - $30 annually if not already a member). We will discuss Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver and work through the popular comparison of Kingsolver’s new book to David Copperfield by Charles Dickens. Beyond those comparisons, we will also discuss the significance of place in the novel, relevant data from the Appalachian Regional Commission, and underlying themes of the focal text. Participants need a copy of Kingsolver’s work but are not required to read Dickens before class. Mikala Jones-Wall joined Young Harris College’s Department of Literature and Languages in 2020 soon after earning her MA in English Composition and Rhetoric from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She also holds a BA in English Literature from Young Harris College and is proud to be from Union County, GA.
