ICL: NEEDLE TURN APPLIQUE
NEEDLE TURN APPLIQUE – Class Limit 6 by Shirley Deasy Cost: $30 Hand Applique is the historic method of layering decorative pieces of fabric on a background fabric. Applique can be put on quilts, clothing and other textiles. There are a number of different methods to do applique. We will briefly discuss the main methods but in this class, you will learn the needle turn method using plastic templates to create your applique shapes. You will learn about the tools needed (required and optional), how make your plastic templates, draw them on your fabrics and make perfect shapes that you will then applique to your background fabric. The kit for the class includes the pattern, heat resistant plastic, a sand paper board, a small paint brush and applique needles. Kit fee of $15 will be payable to the instructor at the first class. Required supplies include paper and fabric scissors, soft lead pencil, a thimble (recommended but optional), a small craft iron (Clover brand recommended) and Fabric Sizing/Starch. Prior to class, a complete list of kit contents and required supplies will be provided. If you have questions about required supplies or the course curriculum, please call the instructor at 828 421-2939. Shirley Deasy has been making quilts for over 30 years. Because her grandmother and mother made hand quilted quilts, when she got hooked on making quilts, she taught herself to quilt them by hand. She has won a few prizes at quilt shows including a 1st place ribbon for an appliqued Tree of Life wall hanging. She has added applique to many projects as well as for a queen size quilt. Shirley, her husband and a silly Scottish Terrier live in Union County near Nottely Dam.ICL: NEEDLE TURN APPLIQUE
