The Folk School is thrilled to announce Centennial Sounds, a five-concert series celebrating 100 years of music, community, and the living traditions of Appalachia. As part of our yearlong centennial celebrations, we are bringing some truly extraordinary artists to Brasstown on select Monday evenings from May through September 2026. All shows are held in the historic Festival Barn at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. $25 for adults and $5 for youth.

Amplifying Diverse Appalachian Voices:

This special series features performers whose work expands and redefines the story of Appalachian music. Music and dance have been a vital part of the Folk School since its founding in 1925. As we celebrate our 100th year, Centennial Sounds honors this legacy by spotlighting the cultural richness of Appalachian music and the many voices that shape it. This special performance series will feature five headliners whose work expands and redefines the story of Appalachian music. Through these concerts, we aim to create new opportunities for our community in Western North Carolina to experience the full spectrum of Appalachian sound. May 18:  Tray Wellington Band blends Appalachian roots with jazz, funk, and global influences. Joining them, the Cherokee Language Repertory Choir preserves Cherokee language through shaped-note singing, reimagining the Christian Harmony tradition and sustaining cultural heritage in Western North Carolina.
